Painting while under the influence...

...of cold medicine. It's apparently a good idea, because I think my peacock turned out nicely!

Since Husband and I are both sick this weekend with the same cold, we dosed ourselves up with sudafed and ibuprofen, guzzled gallons of water, and went our separate ways yesterday. And by separate, I mean we were both in the same room, just performing separate tasks and ignoring each other completely. There's an argument for snuggling together under a blanket and watching movies for comfort while recovering from a cold, but there's also an argument for staying away from your significant other while the contents of their head is steadily oozing out of various orifices.

He plugged himself into Gears of Warcraft 3: ODST, and I decided to paint something.

This is mostly notable because I have not painted anything since February: seven months! I hadn't WANTED to paint since then, actually, and it was starting to worry me. What if I never painted again??

Okay, enough catastrophizing. :) No more melodrama for this post, I promise.

I started with the pencil sketch, as usual, and progressed to yellow, which is the bane of my existence when I don't lay it down first and then try to add it later over darker colors. White is even easier than yellow to layer! And the viscosity is somehow always different... same with orange... Though that might be the poor quality acrylics I use. :)

Then some orange while the yellow was still wet, and then the background blues, the bird's torso, feathers, and voila! Peacock painting.

Why did I pick this? I bought a peacock feather headband this week, and threw it on to keep my hair back while I painted, and things sort of progressed from there. :)
